Digital Storytelling MOOC

Beyond his OLLI and UH classrooms, Bernard also brought digital storytelling to a global audience — a free Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on Coursera, designed as professional development for K-16 teachers.

About the MOOC

A MOOC — Massive Open Online Course — is a free, web-based course open to anyone, anywhere, often with thousands of participants taking it together. Coursera is one of the largest platforms hosting these courses, partnering with universities around the world to offer them to the public.

Bernard co-designed the Digital Storytelling MOOC with Sara McNeil, working with a graduate student team to build it using the "Webscape" course-design model — the same project also produced a companion MOOC on Web 2.0 Tools. Rather than a one-off course, it became the basis for an ongoing UH research program studying how teachers actually engage with and complete MOOC coursework.
